The question I’ve been getting most recently is…what is a brand stylist? Basically, what I love most about my job is that I get to help you bridge the gap between dreams and reality. Brand styling is all about cultivating your identity as an artist and/or business and making the through line in all that you do, online and offline.
Today, I’m going to walk you through some of the basic steps I do with my clients in this brand styling process. I’ll be keeping it simple and would love to go into further detail during your free consultation, so please don’t hesitate to leave a comment, shoot me a message, and ask any questions!
1. What is your brand?
What are you hoping to put out into the world? (Are you an actor? Artist? Pilates studio? Wedding photographer?) For my example today, we will use a hypothetical fashion blogger. This blogger just wants to create her own unique voice, platform, and consistent content that is in line with her brand.
2. Color palette.
The color scheme you choose says a lot about your brand. After putting time and thought into it, we will discuss and come up with 3-5 colors/tones that best suit you and represent the persona and vibe you’re going for.
Today, our hypothetical fashion blogger said that she likes mostly grey, cool tones, and would like her color scheme to consist of mostly greys, blues, white, and black. Clean and minimal. That is when I would create her very own personal palette:
During our consultation, we will chat about style, vibe, and what kind of fonts would make your brand stand out. We will also talk about the importance of continuity, and how we can use this font throughout your entire presence (website, logo, blog posts, business cards, graphics and posts for social media, etc). Below are just a few popular font ideas, but there are so many more.
So, we just found out that our hypothetical fashion blogger loves the BOLD font, as it is simple, minimal, clean, and works for her brand. Now we need to create her logo. Once again, as I said with the fonts, there are countless ways I can design your logo…numerous backgrounds, badges, overlays, icons, and colors to choose from. We are keeping it simple for the sake of this post, so here are just a few popular choices:
Our hypothetical fashion blogger really loved the first logo badge, and she feels that black and white best suits her. So, this is what we have for her:
6. Dream board.
This is the really fun part. Your dream board is where we watch vision come alive. Before adding any content to your site, posting anything on social media, or sending anything to be printed, this is where we take a look at your brand. You will send me 3 brands that most influence you, and I take this into account while designing your board. Each and every element become integrated during this process…your font(s), color scheme, new custom logo, and we add images that are in line with your brand. These images can be provided by the client, or I can pull from my own original professional images as well as my collection of lovely hi-res royalty free photos. Just think of your dream board as a tiny glimpse into your rebrand…a look at what you will be seeing consistently wherever you post. Here is our hypothetical fashion blogger’s board:
7. Business cards and materials.
I can create graphics, postcards, business cards, and other marketing materials for your brand. I will send you hi-res PDFs sized for your own at-home printing, or I can print and ship your resources for you.
From here, we would discuss any further involvement you wish for me to provide (images, graphics, web design help, etc). It’s that easy, friends. We can build the brand of your dreams. Contact me below if you are interested in beginning the exciting rebranding process, and we will chat and figure out a plan that best fits what you are hoping to create. Your work can tell a story. I’ll help you write it.
