Blinded by the lies.

“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.”

-Psalm 119:18

I have come to realize that life is really quite beautiful. You know in Ecclesiastes 3 when it talks about how there’s a time and a season for everything, it’s true. However, I’ve found that even in the most beautiful of seasons, if we want to find something ugly to focus on, we will. In the same way, though, even in the midst of great difficulty, when I really open my eyes, I’m surrounded by so much love and beauty.

It’s all about perspective and what we allow ourselves to see…how we view the world around us. God has given me so much to be thankful for with my lovely family, fiance, friendships, and comforts. My furry dog, warm bed, cozy apartment, and daily meals. Even so, tonight, as I looked at my bank account and had one of those anxiety-filled moments, my fiance reminded me that God is in charge and that there is so much to be joyful about. Numbers aren’t what God wants to control our lives or our happiness…especially when everything else in my life, and I mean everything, is so absolutely wonderful!

Friends-when I read His word, His living word, I really am filled with wonder. Not just because scripture is beautiful, but it’s true! It is applicable, comforting, relieving, and alive.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” -Jeremiah 29:11

His word, His law, His living truth tells us that God’s plans for us are not only irrevocable, but they are plans for a healthy, joyful, blessed, hopeful future! It is so easy to focus in on numbers and forget about how beautiful God’s plans for us are. God’s math doesn’t work like ours. If Jesus fed 5,000 people with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, why do we {I} so quickly forget and doubt that He will take care of us?

What is blocking your vision today from God’s truth? Is it a number on a bank account? A relationship? A fight with your mom? A troubled heart? A doubtful mind regarding your career and job opportunities?

The world fills our minds with lies. These lies can blind us and keep us from seeing God’s plans for our lives. Lies that prioritize money, status, and unrealistic expectations and timelines.

My prayer for you, and myself, tonight is that our eyes will be opened to see the beauty and wonder of God’s truth and His plans for each of us, and that we may break free from the lies and live in joy & freedom.
