As an early twenties girl, I have spent many years seeking purpose and trying so desperately to find the right path for my life and stick to it. I would follow closely as various things lead me down a path…money, careers, fame, relationships, etc…
These things would lead me down the wrong road and I always hit a dead end abruptly, bringing my journey and search for meaning to a screeching halt. Even when I found my love for Jesus, and wanted to follow him, various obstacles still came into play and it took me a long time to understand why my path with God was still not working. It was due to my lack of faith, trust, willingness, and preparation for God to come in and lead my life fully.
Luke 3:4-6 says:
“As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness [shouting in the desert]: Prepare the way of the Lord, make His beaten paths straight.
Every valley and ravine shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill shall be leveled; and the crooked places shall be made straight, and the rough roads shall be made smooth;
And all mankind shall see (behold and [c]understand and at last acknowledge) the salvation of God (the deliverance from eternal death decreed by God).”
The reason for my life not flourishing wasn’t because God didn’t want to bless me. It wasn’t that He didn’t want to lead me. I was simply not preparing the way for Him to come in and change my life.
In those verses, John’s primary task was to make straight paths for the coming Messiah. The original Greek word for paths in Luke 3:4 is tribos, which means a beaten pathway.
Our lives are full of flaws, sin, obstacles and huge gaping holes that only God can fill. I was hoping for God to change my life, but I continued down a road of destruction and poor choices. It wasn’t until I finally prepared the path that He was able to come in and do the rest.
So my questions for you are…
What debris is in the way of your path, keeping God from coming in?
Are you preparing your path for a powerful work of God?
God is ready. He wants to guide your path and give you a life of abundance. What can you clear to make room for His amazing plan for you?
