5 Tips for a VERY happy Valentine’s Day!

Married, dating, or single-we all secretly want to have an awesome Valentine’s Day!
Being bitter and “hating” this holiday is really out of style, girls. We are better than that. You don’t have to be married or have your prince charming in order to celebrate a day full of love.
Valentine’s Day gives us a chance to love, serve, and put others first. This person doesn’t have to be your husband or boyfriend. This person/persons can be a friend, coworker, or family member. My boyfriend is going to be out of town for Valentine’s night, and I decided that instead of going home after work alone, I should continue tomorrow and recognize it as a day to celebrate the people I love! I planned a girls night Valentine’s dinner party. Why? Because you don’t need to have a guy, or cupid, involved to celebrate this fun day! Single girls-don’t hate tomorrow! Enjoy it!

These simple tips below are just food for thought. Think of some different ways that you can make someone feel loved, recognized, and special tomorrow.

#1- “It can still be a date if you order raisin bran.” -Silver Linings Playbook
Maybe you’re working most of the day tomorrow, maybe even tomorrow night. Even if you’re just meeting a friend for breakfast, coffee, or even raisin bran, it can be fun & festive!

#2- “I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it’s the thing I like most-to laugh.”-Audrey Hepburn
Nothing makes me feel better or feel more loved than people who can make me laugh! There are a lot of “serious” guys in the world. We watch all of these romantic films with these serious, romantic men. However-when you’re having an awful day, lose your job, your car breaks down, etc…you need someone who can make you laugh. My boyfriend is incredibly intelligent and we can have the most deep conversations. But his silliness is what keeps me going. He makes me laugh on a daily basis, and he can bring me back to feeling lighthearted no matter what. The same goes for friends. This valentine’s day, hangout with people who make you laugh! Have fun, and spend time with loved ones who make you feel happy. (Want a challenge? Why don’t you try to be the one who makes others laugh & smile this Valentine’s day!)

#3- “Money can’t buy me love…”
Valentine’s day isn’t about how much money you can spend. Finances have been rough so far this year, and my boyfriend & I decided that we are going to give from the heart. Pinterest is incredible for coming up with homemade treasures. Use your own unique skills! If you’re a great chef, cook for your friends or significant other instead of going out. If you’re crafty, make homemade valentines (that’s what I’m doing instead of purchasing cards). Valentine’s day shouldn’t just be a big Hallmark scam day to see how much money we can spend to prove our “love.” It’s about true love. Thoughtful love. Even just writing a kind, heartfelt, handwritten note to a friend, family member, or any loved one telling them how much they mean to you is a beautiful gift. Life is full of ups & downs. My boyfriend, friends, and family have loved me just the same when I’ve had extra money, and when I’ve had none. Give from the heart this year. (For more resources, check out Pinterest for homemade ideas!)

#4- “The best thing to hold onto in life is each other.” -Audrey Hepburn
Yes, yes. I’m quoting Audrey again. She’s just too fabulous. Don’t reject this holiday. Embrace it…literally! Whether you’re spending it with a spouse, family member, or friend, enjoy the day & hold on to each other! Remind yourself of how beautiful it is to have people around you who love you…no matter who they are.

#5- “Playing dress up begins at age 5 and truly never ends.” -Kate Spade
I remember being a little girl and putting on my Barbie high heels, grabbing my Barney purse, and feeling like a million bucks! Somewhere along the way, we stop feeling like Cinderella and feel like it doesn’t matter anymore. Girls…wake up! Dressing up isn’t for boys. Dressing up isn’t so people think we look good. Dressing up is to make us feel good about ourselves! Your Valentine’s night can only feel like as much of an event as you allow it to! Whether you’re going out with friends or having friends over to your house, spice things up! Put on some heels, grab that dress you’ve been looking for an excuse to wear! We all deserve to feel like princesses…and you don’t have to wait for your prince charming to dress like Cinderella!

Lovely ladies, take these tips to heart and enjoy your fabulous Valentine’s day!
