How to get that classy, fabulous sock bun hairdo!

sock-bun4Lately, it seems that everywhere I turn, there’s another celebrity with a glamorous, perfected sock bun hairdo.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am NOT a hair expert. If it’s not quick & easy, I won’t be doing it. So if I’m able to achieve a hairdo, anyone can! ๐Ÿ™‚

The sock bun is so in style right now. It’s the perfect look for a classy party, wedding, night out with friends…and it’s the perfect way to dress up a casual jeans & t-shirt look. I love this hairdo because it’s quick, easy, and keeps my hair out of my face. I am going to go through a couple different easy ways you can achieve the perfect sock bun!

The first time I attempted this hairdo, I went the DIY route. You can make your own sock bun using….A SOCK! (Shocking, huh?) Simply cut the tip/toe off of a sock (I suggest finding one that matches your hair color in case it shows a bit). Roll it until it looks sort of like a doughnut. First-put your hair into a tight ponytail. If you want a high, dramatic bun, place your ponytail high on your head. But if you want a more casual look/low bun, place the ponytail lower. Next, take your homemade sock doughnut and place it right over your ponytail holder. It’ll look like a giant scrunchie. Flip your head over and spread your hair over the sock. Take another elastic ponytail holder and wrap it around tightly. Make sure it’s secured nicely. Last, just wrap your extra hair around the bun and pin it with bobby pins or clips. I like to apply hairspray generously to get rid of fly aways. I have a layered haircut, which makes this hairdo slightly more complicated. If you have layers, just use lots of bobby pins and lots of hairspray. Like I said, if I can do it, anyone can ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you don’t feel like ruining one of your perfectly good socks, there is actually an easier way to achieve this look. Stores everywhere are selling sponge-like, doughnut shaped holders for your bun (instead of the sock method). They sell these at beauty stores, H&M, Urban Outfitters, but I actually found them at the 99 cent store in LA! I’ve never seen them sell for more than $6, so it’s still an affordable option.

What girl doesn’t want a fun, quick, easy, classy, gorgeous hairdo?! The sock-bun look is extremely in style, classy, and perfect for any occasion. Give it a try! ๐Ÿ™‚
