Do you ever feel lost in your relationship with God? Maybe you’re going through the motions, but you don’t feel grounded at all and feel that if the wind picked you up at all, you’d be tossed into a whole different direction.
Last night, I was reading the story of the scattered seed. This really resonated with me…because to be totally honest with you, I think I’ve been scattered into many areas of life that did not allow me to grow in my faith.
This is Jesus speaking:
“Listen. What do you make of this? A farmer planted a seed. As he scattered the seed, some of it fell on the road and the birds ate it. Some fell in the gravel; it sprouted quickly but didn’t put down roots, so when the sun came up it withered just as quickly. Some fell in the weeds; as it came up, it was strangled among the weeds and nothing came of it. Some fell on good earth and came up with a flourish, producing a harvest exceeding his wildest dreams.”
My question for you is, where have you been scattered? Where are you right now? How strong is your faith based on where you have been planted?
Is your faith being snatched away from you?
The birds eating the seed is just like our faith being stolen from us. When we are on a bumpy road and our faith is barely hanging on, it’s the perfect opportunity for Satan to come in and snatch it away from us. This is a scary and dangerous place to be.
Is your faith stuck in the gravel?
Maybe you are excited about God’s word…and you’re really trying…but the fact that Christianity doesn’t eliminate all sorrow or pain has left you feeling confused or jaded. Life sets in. When we experience loss, it can sometimes shake our faith and leave it feeling shallow. You’re feeling weak, and feel as though you might eventually wither away from all of it. I’ve definitely been here. Is your faith feeling weak? Withered? Even dead?
Does your faith feel strangled?
I think many things in this world can choke our faith. The constant desire for money, sex, success, fame…we are human. And we live in a world that doesn’t always make things very easy on us. But we have to be careful in this world not to let the things of the world strangle our faith just like the weeds.
Do you have a flourishing faith?
Maybe your faith is planted on the good earth. Maybe your roots are strong…full of God’s word. And what does Jesus say is the result of this kind of faith? Producing a harvest that exceeds your wildest dreams!
My hope for all of you is that you can develop this kind of faith. A faith that is not easily stolen…not easily withered…and not easily strangled. I want your faith to be rooted in such a strong, healthy way that you produce goodness and a life that exceeds even your best dreams!
I challenge you today to think about where your faith has been scattered to. It’s never too late to change, to re-scatter, to re-root, and to grow in our faith. God has incredible things in store for you. He wants to bless you with even more than your wildest dreams. Have a flourishing faith today. Scatter your faith onto the good earth.
